WOULD YOU LIKE SOME GUILT WITH THAT LIFE?

Recently someone made a comment implying that I was a bad mom. Even though I laughed it off at the time, it stung a bit, obviously, as it’s still stuck to my sweater like a burr. At the party we were at a couple of weeks ago, a woman with three children asked me what I’d been up to lately, and I responded by telling her that work was a bit crazy, and I had a lot of club stuff going on, plus my new work with Mosaic Minds had me sweating an upcoming deadline. Her response: “When do you...

THE GRASS IS RIZ

We walked over to the Congregation House today for a Family Church service because Martin was singing with his little musiklek group. On the way, I discovered a long row of gigantic pussywillow bushes. Snowdrops are everywhere, and little purple and yellow crocuses have thrust out their heads. Tiny green buds tip each branch. The little creek along the snail trail slides like transparent quicksilver over the water-carved sandy bed and soaks the bottoms of the trees. A barely-there carpet of new, neon-green leaves is carpeting the forest floor, pushing up through the winter debris. Spring is sprung! Spring is...

I’M UP! I’M UP!

Anders and I rented Catch Me If You Can last night. I could only sit and marvel at the difference in acting between Ben Affleck (whom you will remember I dissed after catching half his performance in The Sum of All Fears) and Tom Hanks…or for that matter, Leonardo DiCaprio, who I found actually made me forget for decent stretches of time that he was Leonardo DiCaprio. Before that we watched most of the Ice Dancing Free Competition portion of the World Figure Skating Championships. I recognized several couples from the Europeans that I saw live last year, which was...

STRAIGHTENED OUT

For a short time yesterday, my hair was an afghan hound instead of a poodle. My hairdresser IRONED my hair! 😀 When I arrived at galestorm‘s afterwards for dinner and crafting, her jaw literally hit the floor when she saw my hair. She made me let her take a picture as proof. Crafting at Gale’s was great fun, plus she makes a mean spinach tortellini chicken dish. I feel relatively guilty because I used up ALL her magnets, but I had so much fun doing it and am so happy with the result (plus I paid her for them) that...

UNBELIEVABLE

Our Human Resources Manager, in the middle of a conversation with me and another female colleague, just asserted that only women get hung up on “ridiculous” details, and then implied that it was an acceptable reason for dismissing our concerns. When we challenged him, he quite firmly continued to say that it was a fact. I cannot believe that I work for a company where the Human Resources manager is so blatantly chauvinistic and sexist. Get me out of here. >:( That steam you see is coming from my head.

MOUSEKETEERS

Not in the mood to write much lately, not sure why. There’s not even anything going on weather-wise to inspire me. What I can see of the sky is white with infinite cloud cover. Everyone’s shoes squeak. I feel like I’m working in a nest of mice. When I was working at First Chicago, we had an incentive sales trip every year for the salespeople to win. By selling their little hearts out, they got an all-expenses paid trip for a week together. One year it was Sanibel Island, one year it was St. Thomas. And once it was Disneyworld....

OLLI OLLI IN COME FREE

The sun is playing hide-and-seek today. I don’t want to be at work. I want to go play, go shopping, go sit on a blanket in the grass and read a book. I want to plant something in my garden. I want to sit on a swing in a playground and sing to the sky. Anders is gone again tonight for work…I think he said he was going to be at some castle that hosts conferences. I’ve always wanted to live in a castle. Just a little one, not a big, old drafty one. I wanted to be Cassandra Mortmain....

BANG ON MY DRUM ALL DAY

Worked all day with a clamp around my head, both literally and figuratively, as I had my headphones on ON TOP of a headache. Urgh. I got home about 15 minutes ahead of Anders and the kids and crashed on the couch for an hour and a half. By the time I dragged myself upright I was groggy and felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd, I felt he found my letters and read each one out loud… *pulls self together* I read a chapter from The Meaning of Everything that travelertrish so kindly xeroxed and sent to...

HEADPHONES: SANITY SAVERS

GAAAAH. Since I got in to work this morning, my computer has been running at high speed like it’s working on something, even when there are no programs open. Rebooting didn’t help. I’ve called Help Desk and they’re “sending a technician to take a look.” ETA: NEVER, apparently. I’ve got my lovely, wonderful, super, fabulous, noise-muffling headphones on and the music cranked up to cover the sound. For those in the know, repetitive noises drive me insane. Quickly. Anders says I consider TWO repeats of a noise repetitive (and I stand by that statement, actually). When I first started working...
