I DO AND DO AND DO FOR YOU

My mom just suckerpunched me. She called my faux-Avgolemono-soup-insta-recipe PATHETIC. The nerve! Or, as Bugs would say, the noive! But, she graciously sent me HERS, which I will try, but must point out, that mine took about 15 SECONDS, MOM and yours says 55 MINUTES! So there! Anyway, for those of you who feel you can do better, here’s the recipe for Mom’s Moosewood-snob-artichoke-Avgolemono-soup (notes in parenthesis are hers): 2 C chopped leeks 1 C peeled & chopped carrots 1 C diced celery 2 garlic cloves, minced or presses (I use chopped, 2 teas. from a refridgerator jar) 1 tsp...

EXCERPT

Dear Grandma, Words cannot ever be enough to thank you for sending the huge batch of homemade gingerbread cookies (my favorite!) with mom for us to enjoy all through the holidays. The best part is that I just remembered there are still some in the freezer and Anders and I are currently waiting impatiently for a 4-pack to thaw. And the best best BEST part is that I still have 3 packs left! XOXOXO!! Liz

PAT ON THE BACK

I just cleaned out my closet and I deserve a medal. A big, shiny, ruthless medal for 5, count ’em, FIVE big giant paper bags of clothes to give away, 2 bags to the trash and 1 bag to the laundry to decide later. I still have to go through slacks, but man, I made a dent in the pick-from-six-different-sizes mess that was my closet. I went through the kid’s clothes, too, except for outerwear, for an additional 3 big bags. AND I’m putting away Xmas decorations. Anyone need things thrown out or organized or tidied away, I’m your girl!...

MORNING GLORY

It’s cloudy out for the first time in over a week, but the clouds are high and light so I’m not so bothered by it. I started taking down Xmas decorations yesterday evening and, not including the tree ornaments, we have enough stuff to completely cover a dining room table that seats 12. A bit scary, no? It was only Anders that woke me up in the middle of the night to go play hockey-bockey. They won again, so he’s playing right now at the 3rd round. I’m not sure how many games are left if they win this one....

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED

She fell asleep within 15 minutes. Of course, I was sitting on her bed, doing a crossword puzzle and her head was in my lap, but those dark circles from last night’s melodrama-fest did their job (YAY, dark circles!) and she was too tired to fight the lids. So, now we’ll just hope that she STAYS asleep, because with my darling daughter, that is never a given. 🙂 Good writing out there right now: The World According to Chuck I’m feeling very accomplished at the moment, because I defeated, albeit not singlehandedly, the kids department. Go me! You can see...

AROUND AND AROUND AND AROUND WE GO

Karin pulled a melodrama queen evening, flinging herself about with over-the-top declarations of the impossibility of slumber. She CAN’T close her eyes. She CAN’T go to sleep. She CAN’T stay in her bed. I’m so tempted to find a pacifier and stick it in her face, it’s not even funny. Anders thinks she’ll get over this pretty quick once she’s back on a regular schedule with daycare and too tired to do this kind of thing every night, but I have my doubts. It’s like she has to test every boundary and go in the opposite direction of everything we...

MIX WELL, THEN SPREAD

I have such mixed feelings about the whole LJ Friends thing. On the one hand, I really enjoy the community aspect and look forward to comments and reading what others are into and up to, but I’m not much into the politics and even though it’s stupid, I admit to feeling a little sting of rejection when someone drops me from their Friends list, even though I do it myself, in an increasingly futile attempt to keep my online life under control. Ultimately, I don’t care, and my needs for validation are taken care of quite well in many other...

WHAT DID I TELL YOU?!

I’m doing it again. I’m doing it right now! I don’t even want to stop! I’m STAYING UP LATE! Dag Nab It. I ate a normal portion-sized dinner and have been fighting cravings all evening long. A few minutes ago I went into the kitchen to, um, browse, and upon opening the refrigerator, said, “Isn’t there anything in here I can eat without getting fat?” Anders laughed at me, but he didn’t have any answer. Hmph. It was cold today. Bone chillingly, ice crackingly, knee sufferingly cold. I know this because I spent 2.5 hours out in it, patiently waiting...

MUST.STOP.STAYING.UP.SO.LATE

Getting out of bed is impossible in the morning after you’ve been up to 3 a.m. web-surfing, watching horrible late-night TV, cuddles and conversation in bed. galestorm and I had great fun at IKEA yesterday and in the restaurant we discovered a candy bar by the cashier with the rather suggestive name of YANKIE. Just because candy bars have a phallic shape doesn’t mean you need to give them any ideas. Turns out it was a Danish candy bar and a yummy one: very 3 musketeersy with a little bit of caramel. Mums. Questions Anders has been asked at 3...

LJ QUESTIONS

Can you search for “feeds” like comics and news sites or are they in the regular communities? and what the heck is JABBER? (It’s a search category, but what does it bring up?) Edited to ask GALE! Was the comic you mentioned tonight Sinfest?
