GOOGLE LETS ME DOWN

Knock, knock…is this thing on? Hey lurkers! I know you’re out there. *waves to Kathey* Do they still make Wacky Wafers? I loved those things, especially the watermelon ones. Yummmm! Hmmm…seems the answer is no. How sad. I feel a little bit as though I have rabbits burrowing in my brain. I mean, I can’t seem to hold on to a thought. I use up all my concentration at work and when I come home it’s as though I was (were?) a balloon that someone filled up with air and held pinched shut all day,* and as soon as I...

DISJOINTED

How tired do you have to be in order to be diagnosed with chronic fatigue? Cinnamon roll pop-tarts spread with butter and nuked in the microwave for 30 seconds are divine. Some days I’d just rather be reading blogs. This made me laugh out loud, though: What everyone should know about blog depression (thanks to cottontimer for the link!) O Brother Where Art Thou? was on TV tonight and I actually sat down and watched nearly all of it. I really like this movie. And it’s the first time I’ve ever considered George Clooney to be acting and not just...

CRAFTY CORNER

Ta-dah! I finally finished putting together my new art table and everything looks so organized! I’m motivated just looking at it! Sometimes I wonder if I’m a bit TOO organized, and suspect that organization kills creativity in many subtle ways, but when it makes me so happy how can I not give in?

YOU KILLED MY BROTHER, PREPARE TO D–SWAT!*

Did you know that flies are not just attracted to warmth, but mostly to SOUND? They tend to follow sound vibrations to the source since it invariably means warmth or living bodies or food. This morning, some 20 of them followed it to their deaths, in the process aggravating me nearly beyond the bounds of endurance. Since the weather was semi-decent yesterday the doors were open quite a bit with kids running back and forth and in and out, and despite the screens a lot of flies got into the house. I thought I had killed them all before we...

UP, DOWN, ALL AROUND

What Makes Me Happy: The sun is shining today, and it’s warm, but not too warm, with a light and ruffling breeze, and not humid, and the clouds sweep by without stopping, o joy! What Makes Me Mad: Setting up the sun lounger on the deck, filling a tall glass with ice and juice, grabbing the book I’m nearly finished reading, settling myself to enjoy some time in the sun…and being chased indoors after 15 minutes by the hordes of flies that will NOT LEAVE ME ALONE. ARGH!! What Makes Me Sad: Not being able to finish my very last...

DOWN

I woke up to a ceaseless thrumming noise, and slowly realized that it was the downpour of rain against the house, against the wooden slats of the deck, against the earth. It rained all morning and the skies are still bloated and heavy with clouds and moisture. I feel the same. No sunny summer vacation for us this year, it seems. 1 day left and cloudy tomorrow, too, even though now, late in the evening, the clouds are leaving the blue behind and moving east. The sun is throwing out its orange-pink arms, reaching after them, but it’s too late,...

DOH

I am a big idiot. I talked to my mom yesterday, in fact, we SANG to my mom yesterday, but when I was finally getting around to posting in my journal, because I was just thinking about the Bavaria photos, I forgot to mention that it was HER BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY (again) to Lizardmom, the Greatest Mom on Earth! I love you, Mom! Really Great Not So Great Writing Out There Right Now: “The night resembled nothing so much as the nose of a giant Labrador in excellent health: cold, black, and wet.”

A GOOD ONE

We are officially pet owners again! No photos since I’m sensible of a certain someone’s fish phobia, although I can’t promise her they won’t pop up in a future post. Forewarned is forearmed! We got neon tetras, and some other kind of tetras (rosy with black & white accents) and some silver danios and some orange and black barbs and an algae-eater who promptly died overnight (no algae! oops) and today we added a beautiful blue and red betta. I have no idea if I have the names or species right on any of these except the neons and the...
