READY FOR PIE AND SPRING AND BED

Anders being gone all the time is getting kind of old. This is his 4th week in a row away for business, and even though I like having quiet evenings, it’s nicer to have quiet evenings WITH him. He says I’ll be sick of him always being around when he retires but that’s at least 2 years away, and right now, I’m tired of being alone all the time.

It’s really amazing how much sunshine makes a difference. We had several grey days again last week but yesterday was sunny all day long and even though it was still quite chilly and windy, the sun made SO much difference. I went to the plant nursery to see if they had African Violets (they did!) to replace the ones in my violet pots which were pretty much dead (third time since winter began) and they already had a shelf of pansies out. I asked one of the staff and she said, sure go ahead, even if it gets cold again, they can tolerate some frost and though the flowers might droop, they won’t die.

So I bought enough for the front flower pots and spent an hour in the sunshine filling them. White pansies (a first!) and little purple ones. Still have to get 6 more later for the back pots, but since I also cleaned up the front garden beds, the front looks nicer just in time for Pie Night next weekend. There are currently 38 people signed up (!) (there were 40 this weekend but someone dropped off), and I’ve asked Lisel to bring their 4 folding chairs. If we utilize EVERY SINGLE seat in the house including the rolling desk chair and both sofas, and move our little padded chest out to the living room, we’ll have JUST enough seats for everyone. Usually someone else drops off the day of, as well, though, so we should be alright.

It’s the final on Saturday for Melodifestivalen so I’ve promised everyone it will be showing on TV during Pie Night. I’m hoping that Anders will be able to get the TV in the playroom to work so we can have it on in there instead of in the living room, but he couldn’t get it to work last year, and I don’t know if he’ll have time since he’s coming home either Thursday or Friday and has to get the above-fridge cabinets that are arriving tomorrow into place before the party starts, AND bake two taco pies (I’m making fruit pizza as usual, so I’ll do the cookie bottoms on Friday before I go grocery shopping for everything else).

Right now we have more dessert pies coming than dinner pies but several people haven’t written what they are bringing on the signup sheet and I’ve sent out an email asking people to please check the list before they decide and try to keep it balanced. Fingers crossed they actually do so.

And then only one more week before I leave for the US for a month, and Anders and Karin leave for a week of skiing. I need to check my medicine cabinet and pantry to make sure I have my US shopping list complete. I don’t want/need to buy any clothes or shoes, but I DO need stuffing and Vernors! I’m not actually sure yet if I’ll have a bed to sleep in, since Sarah’s family is all moving around in their house, making space for my mom who is moving in with her. Don’t know yet if it will be temporary or what, but mom wants to get her house on the market as soon as possible, so we will definitely have a lot to do while I am there (and my brother who is coming for the same last 2 weeks of my visit).

Also, following up: I went to a record store last week and got 1000 kronor for a huge pile of the rest of the records and then dumped the rest as charity. So all together we made just over 2000 kronor! Pretty good, I think.

I was thinking about watching a movie tonight but now it’s nearly 8 pm and I’m already quite tired so I’ll probably just read for awhile before I hit the hay. Hit the sack? Crash? Why so violent?
