GOING AND COMING

We moved Karin to Copenhagen over the past week. She moved in on Tuesday last week, and it was a super easy move, as she didn’t have so much furniture, and only a few boxes and miscellaneous other stuf. She and her best friend Elsa actually had the trailer filled before Martin even arrived in the morning to help. So we drove over to Copenhagen, and her new apartment is really nice. It’s a big 3-bedroom, brand new, on the south side of Copenhagen, quite near the water. We got her all unloaded, and then Martin and I went and picked up sushi for lunch, and a little while after that he and I went back over the bridge to Sweden.

Anders and I had the whole day with her yesterday as well, as we picked her up at Hyllie Station and then went to IKEA. I thought it would be a quick trip as she had a list, but it took forever. And then over to unload everything. The plan was for Anders to set up her closet system, hang lamps, and hang painting (it’s all concrete walls apparently, and VERY high ceilings). But we had gotten such a late start, and spent so much time in IKEA, that we didn’t even get to her place until after 5. Anders set to immediately, but it was close to 9 before we left and he had gotten the closet system up but the rest remains to be done.

She has two Danish roommates, guys that both worked for the same ski guide company. Jens worked with her both seasons and is a good friend. The other guy, Anders, is a friend of his, but Karin doesn’t know him as well. He’s in college, studying engineering. Both Karin and Jens are now job-hunting as neither of them got into the university program they had applied to. He has a job, but is looking as it’s not optimal. Karin has a lead on a service job, but is still working at Beachgarden for another 2 weeks, and sending in applications as she finds suitable things to apply for. Fingers crossed she finds something good.

Martin has started at Folk Pizza in Lund, but it’s still part-time until November, when he’ll get a contract for the usual 70-80% that is typical for restaurant jobs here. There is a huge lack of available positions in Sweden right now, and unemployment is quite high. I really hope this situation changes soon, or that he decides to go back to school to get a degree that will get him a job that will make him happier. He is also still working at Beachgarden until the end of September, which is good, but I expect his October will be tight, moneywise.

I’m glad that Karin is so close, even if she’s in another country. Even though she’s been officially living at home since she came back from Austria in April, she hasn’t actually been here much. Helped to transition to empty nesting again for us, haha! It’s about a 45 minute drive to her place, which isn’t so bad, considering.

And now I have something new to look forward to! My sister and mom are coming for a LOVELY long visit to Europe. They’re going first to John’s for 2 weeks and then 3 here, though Sarah will be spending part of that in Ireland with Tom on vacation. She sent me the ticket info today. How early is too early to send her a shopping list of stuff to bring with her? 😀 I can’t wait! I’m probably going to take 2 weeks off, or at least be off part of the time they are here. I already forewarned my boss. Woo hoo!
