EVERY VOTE COUNTS

We were asked to send in our book recommendations for the next batch of books for AIC bookworms in June. I lobbied hard to get the amount of recommendations down from 5 to 3, but was overruled, so of course I sent it in 5 as well, because why not? BOOKS! We got the total book list to vote on while we were away on our trip, so I couldn’t vote for the 9 books until right when we got back. It turned out that only 6 books got enough votes to automatically make the list and we had to revote on the 5 books that all tied with 3 votes each.

This year there were only 7 people voting, since the organizer only sent the list to people who had actually been coming to book group during the year, which was good, because in past years we’ve sent to people who showed up at least once, and they would send in recommendations, and vote, and then never show up again, which was kind of annoying. We still had to whittle a total of 32 books down to 9, which wasn’t easy, even when you vote for your own 5 recommended books first!

None of my 5 books made the first cut, but 1 of them was on the list for the second round and it made the cut. The organizer actually ended up with 10 books instead of 9, and at least none of the books I have already read or the ones I REALLY didn’t want to read made the list (except the one about the serial killer and Harper Lee: Ugh). Whew! We have only one book left to read from last year’s list (in August), and then we’ll start on these.

Here is this year’s list, in which I dominate in recommendations with the longest titles, in case you are interested or looking for something to read:

Key: blue=recommended/voted for by me, orange=voted for by me, neon green=voted for by me in the 2nd round, pink=already read. The ones with a star in front won.
