My new year’s resolution for 2022 was to do art every month, and I just finished drawing my last one for December. My idea was to kickstart doing art again, which I think I definitely succeeded in doing, and I hope that I will continue to pull out the sketchpad and the watercolors and make art more frequently than I had been doing before 2022.
I did 4 pencil drawings/sketches (5 if you count my self-portrait for work, which I didn’t include in my 2022 art posts), 2 watercolor paintings, 1 acrylic painting, 2 pastel drawings, 8 pages in my collage book, and 2 clay figures: a Christmoose tree ornament, and a flower brooch. I also made paper at a workshop with Martin, Sarah and mom during the summer, and 2 books from scratch (one was A6 and the other a tiny one for a tree ornament). The books weren’t counted in my 2022 art posts either). Oh! And I made a rainbow-colored glass dish in Bornholm during our summer vacation, as well.
This project prompted me to go through my art supplies, update some things, buy new watercolor paints, etc. I got a new pad of watercolor paper for Christmas, and Martin very kindly let me use up a bunch of his clay for the two clay things I made (though I DID buy him a whole pile of clay for Christmas so I figure we’re even).
In 2021, I did a 5K walk every month. Now, I’m wondering what to do for 2023, and how motivated I am to do a monthly thing. I’ve thought about writing a poem a month, since even though I write here fairly frequently, I haven’t written poetry in forever. Maybe once in the past 5 years? Maybe less.
The whole point of these monthly new year’s resolutions has been to keep them manageable, AND to kickstart something I felt needed doing in my life. I don’t know if I should do the 5K every month again…might be good to do since it’s a great thing to do with my kids, and it helps keep me motivated about exercising regularly. Any ideas?
