I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO TOMORROW

Karin inherited my creeping cruddy throat and cough and has been sick, sprayingly so, for 3 days. No school for her today, and because Anders left for a business trip this morning (to Italy. All week sigh) I stayed home with her and attempted to work while she alternately gyrated and sprawled. A constantly crashing connection made my plans for getting work done rather sporadic and frustrating, as did the painfully blurry and dry eyes that were plaguing me ALL DAMN DAY. She’s going to school tomorrow come phlegm or whatever hell or high water: I have a massage scheduled...

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Do you ever actually sit and count your blessings? I suppose because it’s November now and getting closer to Thanksgiving, and also because we are reading Those Happy Golden Years in which Laura is now a schoolteacher boarding 12 miles from home in a horrible household and SHE is talking about how wonderful her home and family and life are in contrast, that I am thinking so frequently about my life and the things that are good in it. Even if you don’t believe in BLESSINGS, per se; the idea that someone, some higher being, some all-knowing, all-seeing power PERSONALLY...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AWC!

The American Women’s Club Malmö turns 10 years old this month. I’m pretty proud of that fact because though I wasn’t the one who started the club, I HAVE been around since the very first meeting (at which there were 7 people, including Lizardmom, and of said 7 only 2 are still members: me and the founder) back in 1997 when I was gigantically pregnant with Martin. He was supposed to be due right then, practically the day we had the meeting but he chose to take his sweet time and in fact, had to be YANKED OUT 3 weeks...

AND THEN I TOOK A 2.5 HOUR NAP

Liz: (walking into the computer room, where the kids are playing Roller Coaster Tycoon) Hey! I haven’t been for a walk for 2 weeks because I’ve been sick…and do you know what that means? Martin: (rolls eyes) Karin: Maaaaama, I’ve been outside all day. Liz: It means YOU (points to Martin) haven’t been for a walk in 2 weeks! And YOU (points to Karin) haven’t been for a walk in 2 weeks either! Martin: And we’re not going now. Liz: You don’t love me. I see how it is. (starts to cry dramatically, leaves the room) Karin: (comes running to...

NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT

Here’s what I think: Despite the very attractive and addictive qualities of sites like facebook and twitter I like blogging better. I think it was more fun before, when people took more time to read and to visit and to comment. Nowadays it feels as if everyone is beginning to be stretched thin and burning out on the whole internet togetherness thing. 140 character soundbites do not allow me to feel close to anyone, even if that is about how much time I really have available for online interaction. That doesn’t mean I will quit any of the other sites...
