SO THEN WHAT HAPPENED?

Our email program just stopped working a few weeks ago for no apparent reason and we’ve been wrestling with it ever since trying to get it to work again. First me, then Anders, then me, then Anders, with no luck. Trying every possible combination, removing all accounts and re-entering the info. Turning options on and off. ARGH! I hate this sort of thing. Suddenly, something worked and now we can get emails again, and we DON’T KNOW HOW WE FIXED IT. If it stops again, we won’t know what we did that made it come back to life. *grumblestupidcomputersgrumble* I...

HALLOWEENIES

I want to be in the U.S. next year for Halloween. I want my kids to experience it RIGHT. We had the AWC Halloween party today and while it was really nice, if a bit chaotic, it was just a masquerade with decorations. A couple of years ago we got to participate in the closest thing to a real Halloween since we moved to Sweden, courtesy of a friend who put her heart and soul into making sure her children got to experience as close to the real thing as possible, and it was wonderful, but I really, REALLY want...

THE GRAND ESSENTIALS

There is a quote I’ve read that says: “the grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.” Isn’t that a great philosophy when it comes to happiness? It works for me even when I’m only referring to BOOKS! 😀 I’m torn between the philosophy that anticipation is what keeps us going, and that having things on our to-do list is what keeps us going. Maybe it’s the anticipation of actually clearing everything off our to-do lists (all the different ones we keep, not just the ones that keep our households running) that...

TGIF

Horrible, stressful morning at work, to cap off a fairly stressful, busy week. One of those days when there are 42 million interruptions and you’ve already got too much to do, and the DAMN COMPUTER WON’T COOPERATE. I felt like putting my fist through the monitor screen a couple of times, I was so aggravated. I think I even scared my officemate at one point. 🙂 Thankfully, after laborious medicating (of the computer) and tedious do-over-fix-it-work, I got the bloody thing to behave. A bazillion big projects all coming to deadline at once does not make for a calm lizardek....

SEEK YE FIRST THE GOOD THINGS OF THE MIND

I’m having a bit of a Sally Field’s moment over here. I swear I wasn’t soliciting in my last post, but 3 generous anonymous lovelies out there in the innernets just earned my undying love for the gifts they gave me in the form of more userpic and paid account time. I shower kisses upon your anonymous heads! Thank you 🙂 I am in between books, quite unexpectedly. I bought 3 magazines to keep me company while dining on sushi alone before the AWC meeting the other night, which was not at all lonely, but perfectly relaxing and nice, and...

MY MENU CONSISTS OF 2 CHOICES: TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

Aagh! Just got a notice that my extra userpics are expiring quickly. what to do, what to do? I don’t think I can live with just 15. *** The annual school photos came in the mail yesterday. Martin and Karin have serious expressions in both of theirs, although Karin looks like she’s about to go ballistic on someone, she’s got that glint in her eye. Martin actually looks a little surprised. He told me that they had an English lesson in school today. They had to choose the color of a tomato from a 3-choice list of words. *ROLLS EYES*...

ROBBED OF INNOCENCE

I think I just shocked my daughter out of a year’s growth. We were getting them ready for bed, and she held her hands up in front of her with her fingers steepled in a praying position and bade me do the same. I dutifully held up my hands and copied her. “Has your mother ever stolen anything?” she asked. “No,” I answered. “Okay, now fold down your little fingers,” she commanded. I did. “Has your father ever stolen anything?” she asked next. “Um…not that I know of,” I answered. She squinched up her eyes and pursed her lips and...

NOTHIG BUCH TO SAY

I was thinking of trying to compile a “Best of Lizardek” list but I’m unsure where to start. Do you have a favorite post of mine that you could recommend to the list? Just to get me started? Since I’ve been writing in this journal for about 2 years, I ought to have SOME stuff worthy of mention. October has grabbed Autumn by the throat and shaken her back and forth, leaving her limp and leafless. For weeks we enjoyed apple-crisp days of unmarred blue skies, sunshine and stillness. The leaves turned slowly, illuminating every grove, and as slowly fell,...

EVEN IF YOU DO LEARN TO SPEAK CORRECT ENGLISH, WHOM ARE YOU GOING TO SPEAK IT TO?*

You know I must feel like hell if I actually cancel a sushi date. 🙁 Sorry, galestorm, if my throat had been any less sandpapery and my headache any less poundy I would have been there snarfing down salmon nigiri and infecting you with the heebie-jeebies for all I was worth. Bleah. *** Mom and Judy took the amazing sunshiney autumn wonderweather with them when they left. Damn it. *** I have a problem that I have brought upon myself, sort of, and I don’t really know what to do about it. See, we use the OPOL method at home...
