MADE MY DAY

One of my very good friends, Val, who incidently is the only friend from the States to have visited me since I moved to Sweden, got in touch with me today. We had a nice long talk. She’s been reading my LJ and has been so excited because she’s been getting back into rubberstamping and scrapbooking, too. She’s the person that introduced me to rubberstamping in the first place, nearly 7 years ago. Things are going great for her right now, she’s lost a ton of weight and has a spandy new boyfriend. 🙂 I miss her!!! So it was...

WOO HOO

What a fun evening I had! Had sushi for dinner with galestorm and some of the girls, and then went to the first AWC meeting of the year. It was a good one with an interesting speaker, who is one of the founders of the newly opening Tri-lingual Montessori School in Lund. At one point she said they were looking for help with translating their website and materials from Swedish to English, and I’ve just sent her an email to let her know that I’m interested, and would be willing to work out a deal to get extra-curricular English class...

THERE’S A BEAR OUT THERE!

Background: Kathey is one of my best friends who used to live in Sweden, and now lives in Sydney, Australia. Russell is her husband. Russell sent me this email, titled, “Damn you two!” The three of us were in a house together and a small but very dangerous looking bear was trying to get in and he was very dangerous because he had very long black claws and he was very angry looking and he was trying to knock down the door and the door was very flimsy and was about to break off and I was trying to hold...

WHEN THE MUSE COMES

Sleeping in must motivate me somehow. Maybe it just clears my head. 🙂 Anders took the kids to a birthday party this afternoon and was gone for three hours. During which I did pages 4 & 5. They’re facing pages and the colors are very similar just like in the last set. I love the dried leaves, they’re called Monet leaves, but I don’t know if that’s the actual name of the plant or what. These are the ones I was talking about, galestorm, if you want some, as I have LOTS.

ICK

Last night at the crayfish party, one of my friends who had been peeling and eating shrimp, put the peeled heads on her fingers and waved them around, and poked her 1-year-old kid in the nose with them, which he thought was hilarious. I, however, can’t find a word powerful enough to describe how gross I thought it was. ICK It’s the cricket’s fault. That I have this bug-leg phobia. Them, and the cockroaches. Years ago, when I was home during summer vacation from college, I was in the room that was supposed to be mine and my sister’s, but...

CRAYFISH AHEAD

We’ve got a super busy day so why am I sitting reading LJ?! hahahaha (evil laugh) Have to go buy birthday presents for 4 (aagh) little kids, go grocery shopping, make a dish for a party and go to said party. oy! Just saw this cool idea from opheliasphoenix and had to share it. I’m thinking of doing something similar at some point for Found Art: I walked up to the 24 hour photo and asked if they had any extra film containers lying around (you know the little plastic cylinders with caps your film comes in) and they did!...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE MERMAID

“She’s been beheaded twice, her arm has been amputated and vandals keep pouring paint over her. Despite all this, the Little Mermaid has made it to her 90th birthday.” Happy Birthday Little Mermaid! I remember being so fascinated with her years ago as a teenager, when we lived in Europe and took the train from Germany to Copenhagen and then across the water to Norway. *** On a whim, we went into town this evening after work so that Anders could visit Malmö Festival, even though it was the last day, which in our experience is not the best day...

HALLELUJAH, BABY!

I’m not very church-minded as anyone who knows me will attest to, so why is it that 2 of the weblogs I read…um…faithfully…are religious in a sort of reality-check way? I don’t even like TALKING about religion (or politics), not even with good, close friends. It makes me uncomfortable and gives me the heebie-jeebies. It’s not that it’s not interesting, or that I don’t know enough about it, it’s just not my thing. Maybe it comes from growing up with a mother who had books lying around about reincarnation and astrology and the strange gigantic earth drawings on the Nazca...

SO LITTLE TIME

Giant to-do list tonight which involves mostly housework, kids and website updating. So, here’s (finally) a scan of page 3. It’s facing page 2 which is why it’s in the same color scheme. I was feeling guilty today because I’m spending so much on collage supplies but when I got home my tax return check was waiting in the mailbox! Guilt-free again! hahaha!! Although it’s mostly going to go to pay for paving stones for the driveway and paths, it ought to be able to cover a couple of leeeeeeedle purchases with my craft buddy. ahem. I’ve been staying up...

TORN BETWEEN TWO PROJECTS

aaagh!! Both my projects are calling me, and I’m not getting further on either one of them. I’m supposed to be working on the newsletter/website for the AWC update happening on Monday, and haven’t even finished it. I still have to upload all the pages for the webwoman to double-check and I’m nowhere near finished. Keep sneaking away to rendevous with my…um…collage book. Must—fulfill—obligations—first. I’m reading several other LJ’s and saw that so many of you are taking Swedish classes, and didn’t realize you were all so “new” to Sweden. I feel like that is very far behind me at...
