STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS

It’s Saturday just after lunchtime, and I am determined to write something here, so here I am. The whole week got away from me (again) even though I thought about writing a post several times. Winter has a grip on us and work has turned crazy already so my mind has been elsewhere. It’s a month past the solstice and I would like to feel that the light is returning, but it’s still so dark and cold and wet. We HAVE had snow and several very sunny beautiful clear days but they’ve been bookended by the usual cloud cover, and now since two days ago, strong winds. It seems it’s always windy in Skåne; a wind-still day calls for notice and celebration.

I was out before lunch in the freezing cold (it’s 1.9C right now) doing a couple of outdoor chores: taking out the recycleables, filling the bird feeders, emptying the garbage cans in the house and taking that out, too. An acquaintance from the other end of the neighborhood was walking by as I was out with the bins, walking with crutches, so I went over to talk to her as I haven’t run into her in ages. She had a foot operation in November to replace a sprung tendon and is working on getting it strong again, even though she still has a lot of pain. I felt quite guilty about my constant excuses to avoid walking because my knees and hips hurt so much. I really need to get over myself and get moving. When I was thinking that before, we got snow and had icy streets for several weeks, so I COULDN’T walk. Now it’s just REALLY cold. And really windy.

Anders is currently trying to clean and fix the dryer which has been on the fritz for sometime. It takes forever to dry anything, several hours in most cases, and more when it’s a heavy load like towels. Now I have to look up “on the fritz”.

Origin unknown, more’s the pity. Same with “on the blink”, which I don’t know that I’ve ever used, though I’ve heard/seen it. But I can distinctly hear my dad’s voice in my head, saying “on the fritz”. Anyway, our dryer needs fixin’ and thank goodness, I have a husband that fixes.

On Tuesday, I left work a little early and went to Malmö to get my hair trimmed. Albertina showed me the clear line between the new growth and the hair that hadn’t fallen out, and said the new growth is just over an inch long and looks very nice and full. I’m SO thrilled that it’s growing back in, I just wish it would grow faster, haha. The next morning, when I went to leave for work, right after I pulled out of the driveway, a warning light came on about low tire pressure. I stopped before the turn and got out and looked but couldn’t see that the tire looked low at all. So I got back in and continued, and then the warning light came up again, and the popup box that shows the pressure in each tire came up. The driver’s side front tire pressure was droppping rapidly as I drove, so I just went right around the neighborhood and back into the driveway, stopping right as it hit 0. When I got out and checked again, sure enough, it was completely flat.

Thank goodness Anders was working from home this past week and wasn’t super busy, because he spent the rest of the day dealing with the car and tires. He had to take the tire off first, then drive with it to Lund to the tire place to get TWO replacements (because apparently you can’t replace just one tire or the car will be unbalanced), but they didn’t have them onsite, so he had to come home and wait for them to call. There was a rip or tear of some kind in the side of the tire, but he couldn’t tell if it had been cut deliberately or what. I hadn’t bumped or scuffed anything recently and I drove home the day before all the way from Malmö so hard to believe someone might have cut it while I was parked in the city, even if there have been lots of reports of vandalism on Teslas in the past year. 🙁

They called in the early afternoon and he drove back to Lund to get the tires, then he had to take the other tire off, and put both new ones on. He even filled the windshield wiper fluid and replaced the windshield wipers while he was at it. I was able to work from home, thanks to an understanding team, and he finished in time for me to run to Lund for a couple of hours for department after work party.

It’s a nice quiet weekend with no plans. I’ve already done most of the little chores I had on the list in my head, so I plan to spend the rest of the day reading, working on a jigsaw puzzle, and relaxing. I have some AIC web document maintenance to attend to as well. And maybe some more research for our planned anniversary trip to France. Oh, and putting the last load of laundry in once Anders finished with the dryer. He just walked by and I called out “Are you already done??” and he scoffed at me. He’s just collecting tools from his work toolkit that’s in our closet. I hope it’s not an all-day project.

Tonight, we might watch a movie, though the one I was considering is 3 hours long. What is with all the 3 hour movies?? It’s one of the good things about streaming services: I can take bathroom breaks whenever I need them without missing anything. I won’t go see a 3-hour movie in the theater anymore. I just googled that question and got a lot of reasons that make sense on the one hand, but are aggravating on the other. Anyway, we’ll see.
