Back at work, back to “real life”, back to routines, and alarm clocks, and going out of the house (nearly) every day. It’s been a soft start so far, though I’m only 2 days in, as there aren’t very many people in the office, I have no meetings, and the amount of work right now is actually extremely low and very manageable. I had caught up on all my outstanding jobs that were waiting for me before Monday, so I was in good shape when I came into the office.
There are only 4 people on my team (including me) working right now, and Monday there were only 9 people total working on the floor in my department, none of whom are managers. 🙂 I’ve had time to clean up stuff and do admin work that we rarely have time for. I’ve taken several tickets that were sitting waiting because no one had time to deal with them in the past 3 weeks while I was off, and they were still getting lots of work coming in. I’ve handled and closed at least 4 jobs for colleagues who are on vacation, that were just waiting for approval.
I’m eating breakfast daily at home (kicking my metabolism into better gear) and staying on the time schedule I started in the hospital so that I can take all my morning pills at 8, and then leave for work. This week and next are the “dead weeks”, and I could probably work from home more than just the one day we’re allotted, but I figure I can always leave early if I feel like it, too. It’s been rainy this week, and very cloudy, so doesn’t feel like I’m missing any summer time. It’s been a very rainy summer, which has been a bummer for a lot of people, though I’m just as glad to minimize the hot days. Anders is working again as well, but he’s on call this week, so is working from home and doing training modules that he also never has time for. He’s not feeling great this evening, and thinks he’s coming down with a cold, and I really, really hope he doesn’t give it to me.
Today, the doctor that helped me finally with the colitis at the health clinic called me out of the blue just to see how I was doing, and check that everything was going well with my transfer to the stomach/intestine department in Malmö. I was completely disconnected from both her and the healthcare clinic after she saw me and got me transferred to them, so I was very pleasantly surprised at her call. It feels like she went above and beyond to check on me, since she had no real need or obligation to do so. Since I’ve now changed my primary care doctor to her, that even more makes me feel like I made the right decision, and I talked to her about my diabetes and other things, and she was right on top of it. Very pleased!
Martin called me this afternoon to see if I could manage to meet them for lunch tomorrow with Theo and his parents, and I said, yes, if it was in Lund. And it turned out they were planning to go to Folk (where Martin works) and that is perfect! So I will take a few hours tomorrow afternoon to have a late lunch. Theo’s parents are really nice and fun and very easy to talk to, and I really like the pizza and the pizza salad at Folk (pizza salad is typically a vinegar-based cold cabbage salad, but Folk makes theirs with 3 kinds of cabbage and parmesan and it’s delicious). The only thing is that they booked a table at 1:30 because Martin is working afterwards, and I will be SO HUNGRY by then since I usually eat lunch at 12! Maybe I’ll go see if I can find a silversmith in Lund afterwards and just take the afternoon off. I’ve just sent that inquiry to my manager, and am pretty sure she won’t care. 🙂
Talked to my sister yesterday and they were finishing up a last minute spackle job at my mom’s place before it goes on the market next week. Sarah is very happy so far with the realtor and while they don’t expect to make a profit on the house, they hope to get a bidding war going possibly, and the realtor seemed to think she might have some potential buyers lined up even before the first showing, so that is very promising. They were taking photos this past week and the listing should be up soon.
My manager just answered with a yes. 🙂 I knew she’s be okay with it.
