Do you like shopping? Or just window shopping? Do you have to have a list or a plan or do you like to just wander and look and see what you find?
I’ve never been all that much of a shopper, and since I’ve gained weight, clothes shopping is no fun at all. I have a couple of stores, one here and two in the US and that’s basically where I do all my shopping, though I order bras online, and there is one catalog from the States that I’ve ordered jeans/leggings from many times. I wear my clothes until they are literally falling to pieces. And if I have found something: a shirt or a pair of shoes that I really like, I will often go buy a second one just so I have a backup.
Otherwise, I like shopping best when I have a plan or a list. Shocker, I know! On Saturday, after our midsummer party, I thought I would run over to the mall in Lund to get a few things there and at the big box stores, though that was partly to look and see if they had certain things (shower curtains, impermeated tablecloths) in patterns that I liked. I had makeup and specific batteries, and the aforementioned household items on my list, but that was pretty much it. I thought I might take my antique watch in for repair as well.
But when I got to Nova Lund, which, incidentally, is completely under construction, it was CLOSED. WHAT! Totally closed. Midsummer day. Drrr. Didn’t even think about that, just figured Saturday was a shopping day. Some of the big box stores were also closed, including the one that I was sure would have what I wanted. So, to not waste the trip out, I went to another couple of big boxes that are sort of mini-Target catch-all places and just walked through them to see what they had. I very seldom go to either of them (Rusta and Ööb) so it was kind of soothing to just walk through and look. They both basically carry the same kind of stuff: toiletries, cleaning supplies, rugs, curtains, cushions, fake plants, kitchen and bathroom stuff, household accessories and decorations, LOTS of candles and candle holders, tools, toys, outdoor/porch furnishings, pet food, grill stuff, candy, and some groceries.
I got the batteries, 2 bags of marshmallows for making 4th of July rice krispie treats, Wettex cloths, big garbage bags (on sale!) and some other miscellaneous items. Even though I didn’t find tablecloths or shower curtains that I liked, at least I saw what they had, and could strike those 2 stores from the possibilities.
Today was my first day of real work in 2 weeks, though I sneak-worked nearly a day’s worth of hours during my sick leave. And I was awake at THREE AM last night and couldn’t get back to sleep until nearly 5, so I’m amazed that I made it through the day, and that I am STILL awake now at a quarter after 8 pm. I left the house just after 4 and met Karin at the mall. I got the makeup I needed, new shampoo and conditioner, found a tablecloth, and then we went to Jysk and I found ANOTHER tablecloth and a couple of mats for under the shoes in the laundry room (to replace the ones that were too small), and hand towels for the bathroom in the exact right color, to replace several that have been bleach-stained by salves/makeup. Karin found a few things for her apartment that she needed, too.
We went to Rusta as well because Karin has been in desperate need of a fan or cooling unit. Her apartment is overheated and they don’t know why, since they are on the ground floor and the apartment is cool as long as they have the windows on each end open. But as soon as they close them, the place heats up like crazy. That also means that they can’t have the windows open at night (at least Karin thinks it’s a little scary as her room faces the street) and it was actually 28C in her room last night, as it’s been really warm out as well. That’s 82F IN HER ROOM AT NIGHT. I would die. We ended up deciding against a regular fan because that will just blow the hot air around, and opted for a fairly large standing cooling unit that you can either put cold water or ice packs in. I hope it works as advertised!
The only thing I didn’t find were shower curtains but because I am only looking to replace my second set (I alternate when I wash them), there’s no rush at all about that.
Then Karin and I went back to the mall and had really decent food court sushi, before I dropped her at the train station. Anders is gone again this week, up to Tingsryd for the second week in a row. Martin and Theo are coming home from Corfu tomorrow, though they will be staying overnight in Stockholm with Theo’s brother, as they don’t get there until super late at night. Next weekend, we will go to Malmö and I’ll FINALLY get to see their new place.
Tomorrow, I actually have a vacation day, which was planned ages ago before my whole health ordeal. I’m meeting Debbie and Camilla down in Falsterbo in the morning to go to a photo/art exhibition place, and we’ll have lunch and then decide what else, if anything, we want to do in the afternoon. It’s a bit of a crazy week, especially since I go on vacation NEXT WEEK. On Wednesday morning I have to drive over to the healthcare clinic and leave blood for tests, first thing in the morning, then have an appointment in the afternoon with the ear/nose/throat doctor. Thursday I have to leave work early for a hair appointment. I got a TON done today though so I’m feeling okay about work and being caught up and on top of things. Hopefully I won’t wake up in the wee hours tonight and can get a solid night’s sleep in.
I’ve also been filling up my calendar rescheduling all the appointments I had to cancel over the last two months, as well as some other events that have been added in July. It’s very nice to feel like my life is getting back to normal, along with my digestive system, even if that part is a little slower than I’d like. I FEEL good, though, and that’s what matters.
