I’ve spent a lot of time this spring and summer admiring our garden. Anders does all the heavy lifting when it comes to the yard and vegetable garden. He mows the huge lawn, trims the hedges, weeds, edges, and plants most of the vegetables as well as netting and staking, and tying up when necessary. I buy flowers and put them in pots or plant them and water everything every day, and deadhead as needed. We’ve done more with fertilizer this year and it’s really helped, especially with the tomatoes and with a couple of the rose bushes, as well as the vegetables.<\/p>\n

This year we planted snap peas, yellow and red onions, carrots, and potatoes from seed. We bought already thriving cucumbers (2 kinds) and cherry tomatoes, and we got 2 starter red bell pepper and chili pepper plants from Maria (one of which, but we don’t know which, has since died). No cherries this year, as I think I’ve previously mentioned, since there was late frost and not enough coming on the tree to warrant bothering with netting it. <\/p>\n

I’ve planted neon-pink geraniums (pelargoniums) of several different kinds in most of the pots. In the front we have two different kinds of hostas and several coral bells (heuchera) which change from yellow to orange to red, as well as purple alliums and roses. There are also a couple of pots with succulents, and one that has pearl hyacinth in the early spring but nothing at the moment. I have a big pot with stonecrop in the back and on the deck I have pots with more roses and rosemary. There are beautiful honeysuckles growing up both sides of the trellis, that the bees love. We got a big pot with daisies, roses, and a purple climber whose name I don’t know from Annelott at midsummer. I might try to replant the roses, but we’ll see. <\/p>\n

Never thought a garden and plants would be so satisfying since I’m not really a gardener and don’t like mucking about with dirt, and can’t get down on my knees to do any real planting. But all the pretty colors and different flowers really make me happy.<\/p>\n
