I have a dozen others yapping at my heels, vying for attention. I wrote yesterday that I have work on the brain, but I didn’t realize how bad it was until this evening. Farmor and farfar picked up the kids after school so I felt able to stay late and work. Anders also worked a little late. He called me once during the day today to ask me for Martin’s person-number* and I called him once to talk to him about how to divide up the day on Friday since Karin’s daycare is closed and we had to make arrangements.

His parents fixed dinner for him and the kids and I ate after I got home. They left soon afterwards, and I finished a book during the half hour until it was time to start the bedtime routine. We got kid teeth brushed and kid pajamas on, and then I read 2 stories to Martin and Karin, and then Anders walked them on the tops of his feet into their bedrooms, one at a time. We each bent over each child in turn and said our goodnight ritual: Goodnight, sleep tight. I love you. See you in the morning. A hug. A kiss. Lights out.

“I’m so tired,” I groaned. Anders rubbed my shoulders for a moment. “I have to work and all I really want to do is sleep.” He told me to blow it off, but of course I couldn’t. We talked for a few minutes about scheduling logistics, then he headed out to the garage to finish some last minute work on the motorcycle before its inspection tomorrow, and I sat down in front of the computer and proceeded to finish up my Mosaic Minds and AWC responsibilities. I answered some overdue emails, and then I relaxed a little and opened a web browser window to catch up on what my friends have been up to during the day.

One of the first messages I saw was from sari wishing her readers a happy first day of June. “First day of June,” I thought. It’s my friend Debbie’s birthday. Happy birthday, Debbie, over there in Canada! We miss you. Then I thought some more. Seems there ought to be something else about the first of June that I ought to be remembering.

Suddenly, it came to me. Oy! I got up, and went out into the garage just now. Anders was wearing his old work pants with duct tape on the knees and a greasy sweatshirt. I must have looked a little stricken, because he looked at me in alarm and said, “What is it?” I went over to him and leaned my head on his chest.

“Happy Anniversary, honey,” I said. There was a pause as his arms came up around my shoulders. “Oh…oops,” he said. I laughed, and so did he. “Oops, too.” I said. “Good thing it wasn’t our 10th,” he grinned. “Yeah,” I said. “Good thing.” 🙂

Cracking Me Up: You Should See What Actuarial Tables Do For Him

*the equivalent of a Social Security Number in Sweden

I worked until 6 today trying frantically to finish up a project that was due.
