We had a lovely New Year’s evening at our friends Mats and Annelotte’s and left their home around 1 am, but had to drive all the way to Lund to pick up Martin who had been at a party with friends in Malmö. I was super tired at that point, and starting to not feel well, and by the time we got him and got home at close to 3 am, I was coughing, feverish, and sick.

4 days completely flattened, with every possible cold and flu symptom. Ugh. And super worried about having infected not just Anders and Martin, but Mats and Annelotte as well, with something I didn’t even know I was coming down with. I wasn’t able to start work as planned on the 2nd as I couldn’t even get out of bed, which also had me feeling guilty and upset because my team was so understaffed and I had already had 2 weeks off. I know it wasn’t my fault that I was sick and couldn’t work, but that doesn’t mean I can’t feel guilty about it regardless, when I had so much work waiting for me, and so much rolling in on top of it, to boot.

4 days of not being able to eat hardly anything, read anything, watch anything, do anything, except lie in bed and listen to my lungs wheeze…something I am still doing. 🙁 And rest. I was able to work a few hours on Thursday,…just in time for a 3-day weekend. I am still shaky, and wheezy, and coughing, but I’ve been able to get out of bed and stay out mostly, yesterday, and today. I’ve managed to do some laundry and eat, and my head is clear. But Martin just left work not feeling well, and Annelotte told me yesterday she’s got cold symptoms, and I’m terrified that Anders, who is supposed to leave early Monday morning for a weeklong work trip to Iceland, will still come down with it. UGH.

It’s January 7, and my first post of the year. I didn’t even write my daily good things list on Facebook for the first 4 days of 2023, breaking my nearly 2-year long streak. Seemed sort of stupid to write a good things list that consisted of items like cold medicine, Kleenex, and being able to eat toast.

Ah well, 2023 is well and truly here, and even if its beginning sucked, hopefully that is not actually a harbinger for the rest of it. You hear me, universe? I’m holding you to account. *wheeze*

Mood: optimistic
Music: Dala—The Sweetest Ones

Not a super great start to the new year, I have to say.
