I don’t care about lots of things that other people seem to care a ridiculous amount about. Princess Diana, for example. Don’t care. The 4th season of The Crown<\/i> was just released and suddenly my social media is full of her again. Don’t care about royal families in general, for the most part, and the current one in the UK has less interest for me than most. I don’t care what they’re doing, who they’re marrying, where they’re vacationing, and whether or not they’re happy in their roles. I watched the first three seasons out of curiosity and thought they were full of fantastic actors playing rather boring people with incomprehensible accents. I watched the first episode of the new season but not sure I can be bothered to watch the rest since I really don’t care about “the Diana years” and that’s the whole focus. Been there, was already alive for that.<\/p>\n
I don’t care about any of the Kardashians. I’ve never seen a snippet of any of their shows. Do they have more than one? Never mind, I don’t care. Same for Kanye or any of the Real Housewives. Don’t care. I don’t care about reality TV in general and in general, deplore the degradation of everything (including politics) into reality-TV-competition bullshit. Why does everything have to be made more exciting by turning it all into a chopping block conveyor belt? In fact, I don’t care much about television in general, though in the past couple of years I’ve watched more of it than I ever have, and found some really great shows to boot.<\/p>\n
Best sellers? Most of the time, don’t care. I’m convinced that my own taste in reading is better than the common denominator of the vast majority, and I keep getting proven right when I see what ends up on those lists. Snobby much? You bet’cha. Of course, they’re not ALL bad. Sometimes books I think are really great get the exposure and hype they deserve. Just generally speaking. The same goes for movies, but not as often, for some reason. Maybe because I don’t see as many movies as I read books?<\/p>\n
What else? I don’t care about the memories people share on Facebook. We saw it once, that was enough. Don’t care about Twitter or Tiktok or whatever the cool new app\/thing is. I don’t care about memes. And not because I don’t get them. I just don’t care about them. I don’t care about sports, especially college sports. I understand WHY people care about them, but honestly, sometimes they just seem like one more way to divide us. Another competition. The same goes for religion.<\/p>\n
And on top of all that? Most of the time, I don’t care what people think of me, especially strangers. I care what my family thinks, what my friends think, what my manager and colleagues think. But I don’t care if someone thinks I’m weird, or loud, or too whatever. I’m self-confident enough not to worry about it. There’s so much out there that we’re told, from childhood on up, that we should care about, make concessions for, pay attention to, do or don’t do. Not caring is very freeing. You should find the things that you find worthwhile of care and care about them. Don’t let others dictate what you should care about. That’s all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
