A whole day to myself and I didn’t do anything special…unless you count being completely selfish and not doing anything special.<\/p>\n
The clocks went back last night, but my brain’s influence over my body was negligent…I still woke up early and then couldn’t get back to sleep. It’s disconcerting for someone who defines the essence of weekend as the chance to sleep in. And here it is a quarter to nine and my eyelids are trying to clang closed: end of the day! Go to bed! SLEEP. Stupid eyelids. Stupid brain. It’s Daylight Savings Lag. One hour turns you into a zombie and it takes a minute a day for the next sixty days to recover.<\/p>\n
It was sunny in spurts, every now and then the light would brighten and the pumpkin across the street would glow. I spent several hours working on the 2014 calendars for the AWC website. Putting in the dates, members’ birthdays and holidays from both the American and Swedish calendars. I think this is the first time that I’ve seen Halloween listed on the Swedish online calendar: progress! <\/p>\n
A family around the block is supposed to be taking over the neighborhood trick-or-treating, but she asked me to update the letter and print it out along with the pumpkin signs since they don’t have a printer and she just had a baby and it didn’t feel like I was handing it over when I was still doing half the work. They havent even distributed the flyers yet and it’s only 4 days away…cutting it a bit close, but hey! All I have to do now is hand out candy. Unless my daughter comes through on her threat to host a Halloween party for her closest 42 friends…EEK.<\/p>\n
I haven’t even gotten out the measly few Halloween decorations that we still have. I think our cobwebs finally bit the dust last year and went into the bin. I have a paper pumpkin garland and a couple of glow-in-the-dark plastic ghosts, and some other miscellaneous paraphernalia. I did buy a big pumpkin that’s sitting out in the front, but who knows if I can convince the family teenagers to actually do something with it. If not, I’ll carve it myself. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
This week is Sportlov (school’s autumn break), the end of October and only 1.5 months until my mom comes! Nearly time to start making some lists and checking them twice.<\/p>\n
