Just the two of us 🙂 That doesn’t happyen very often. We had originally planned to go to a Halloween market that was at a new place we’ve never been to (Botildeborg) over near where he and Theo used to live. But it was absolutely pouring rain in the morning and Martin discovered that the market was a) mostly food products, like a farmer’s market, and b) OUTDOORS. No thanks. We had previously planned to meet for lunch first and then go to the market, so we decided to go ahead with our plan but to change out the market for thrifting and/or shopping in Malmö instead. I picked him up just before 12 and we headed to Entré to have sushi at Aiko. (shocker! I know)

Since I had eaten a rather late breakfast, I wasn’t super hungry, so we split a salmon sashimi and I ordered an 8-piece roll with tempura shrimp covered in avocado. It was delicious. Then we went and picked up ceramics that we had painted a couple of weeks ago: Theo’s pretty tomato plant pitcher, and my two holiday bowls with lids…meant to be used for the raisins and almonds for glögg. I’m not 100% pleased with the way they turned out, but they’re pretty enough. It wasn’t raining at all by then and the sun was actually out, so we walked over to Loppis Lounge. They didn’t have anything worth a second look, so we caught the bus and went up to the Sci Fi Bookstore which recently moved into a huge new space. It was packed with people, and really nice, even though books fill maybe a third of the space. 🙂 The rest is full of games, and various merchandise for sci-fi and fantasy lovers. I actually picked up some things for Christmas presents for both Martin and Theo (which Martin now has to forget about). I just ordered Theo’s main present and one for Martin as well, so feel like I am getting started, as I’m a bit late this year.

After the bookstore, we swung into AB Småland both so that I could use the bathroom, and so we could get fika. The line was ridiculously long and very slow-moving, but we were quite happy with our choices: Martin got carrot cake with browned butter frosting, and I had a lemon “kladdkaka”. My Rescued juice drink was NOT that great, so I switched to water. Then we took the bus back to where we had parked the car, and I drove Martin back to his apartment and got home myself by about 4 pm. I kept getting thrown off by the fact that that clocks went back overnight, and I hadn’t updated my watch, so every time I looked at it, I got confused.

—

Almost exactly a year ago, my family was contacted by an “Independent Energy Land Consultant”, looking for the heirs or representatives of John W. Slaughter regarding a potential oil and gas leasing opportunity. We thought it was some sort of scam, but after some research and quite a bit of back and forth, it turned out to be legit, at least we sincerely hope so, since we’ve gone ahead with it. Apparently my dad and his sister received mineral rights shares to acreage in Texas as a gift from their father, and since my dad has passed away (and apparently his sister has as well, without our knowledge), the rights fall to my mom, me, and my sister and brother. My aunt’s half goes to her daughter Jennifer. We also had no idea where Jennifer was or if she was even still alive but since the landsman has now confirmed that she’s signed on as well, we can assume she is in fact still alive and well.

SInce we had no idea what a landsman was or what mineral rights entailed, I asked our Texas friends if they knew and Kathey very kindly put us in touch with a contact through a friend of hers, who helped us establish the legitimacy of the offer. He finally got the go-ahead from our family and sent documents to all 4 of us last week to look over and sign. We have to get them back by November 11, and mine still haven’t arrived, though he sent them with FedEx. It turns out that 2 sets of the documents have to be signed and notarized, and that is crazy expensive here in Europe. John ended up paying around 250 EURO and I expect my cost will be similar, plus we have to pay to get them sent back with tracked mail (DHL/FedEx, etc.) which is also expensive. I hope we actually get something out of this deal to compensate at least for those costs! Since my packet still hadn’t arrived by today, I asked him to email the paperwork to me, and now have the documents printed out and ready to go. Tomorrow I’ll call and make an appointment with a notary in Lund, and then have to get them in the mail as quickly as possible.

The leaves have been falling off all the trees and it looks the ground everywhere is dotted with golden coins. I could use some more sunshine (never enough), but it’s been nice to see the pretty colors of the fall, even while I lament that their coming and going means winter is nearly here. It will be November this weekend. How is that even possible?! Time just keeps on ticking. I’m spending the weekend with Debbie, Doris, and Camilla at an AirBnb in Österlen. I’m bringing games, a pillow, chargers, and hoping we will have a plan for food before Friday. 😀 Now I just have to get through the rest of this week. Getting my next dose of colitis meds on Thursday, and then it’s planning and packing!

Mood: tired
Music: Remi Wolf—Champagne

I had a lovely afternoon yesterday just hanging out with Martin in Malmö.
