No plans and a long sleep in, and yet I’m still tired. Hard news from within my family is rumbling around in my head, hard news everywhere in the world, it seems. It’s been a tiring year for everyone and it’s not over yet. The sun is shining, the sky is solidly, purely blue, but it’s chilly outside and fall is burning up the treetops, tinging everything with yellow, orange, red, and brown. Leaves are blowing acros the yard and piling up in corners.

There are things on my to-do list that I can’t seem to get to, even though nothing is stopping me but myself. I need to choose a recipient for the October letter, and I need to get it written soon. This is a busy week ahead with 3 evenings full. I could drop out of one of the things, and still might, but I need to remember to top up my social pot, too, and not just stay at home, on the couch with a book, because it’s less effort.

This morning, and this week, I’ve been considering addictions. Namely mine. To food, and to iPad games that provide a constant hit of dopamine. How can I change my life if I’m not willing or able to change my own behavior? I want to write more, to read more, to create more, yet spend countless hours wasting time that could have gone to something better. It wasn’t always this way, and it doesn’t have to BE this way, but the motivation to move the needle is harder to find that it should be.

Tuesday is the AIC meeting: board meeting first, and then karaoke, which I’m not really in the mood for. Thursday is a birthday dinner with the Axis ladies at Lisel’s place. I need to make and bring an appetizer to that. And Friday is another AIC activity which is the one I may drop out of. See: above, tired. And the week after that is pretty busy, too, with a long weekend away (and a day off work) at the end of it. It will be the second year in a row that I’m not home to contribute to the neighborhood trick-or-treating on Halloween. This time last year I was wearing a turban, and had lost nearly all my hair. This year, my hair is nearly back to the length it was before. I’m grateful daily for that.

What else is on my mental to-do list? Starting a photobook for our Normany trip (have to get all of Anders’ photos uploaded), making an appointment with a “familjejurist” to discuss wills, powers of attorneys, etc., which I’ve been procrastinating quite hard about. Cleaning out clothes in my closet: another point of major procrastination. I’m so unmotivatefd at the moment. Maybe I need to pull a chair out on the porch and sit in the sunshine for a bit. Except I think I waited a bit too long to think of that; the sun is too low already. It’s hitting the neighbor’s yard full on, but ours is all in shadow thanks to the trees around us. Ah well. I have a short list of recipients for this month’s letter in my head, so I just need to get motivated. I’ll get motivated, I swear. Soon.

Mood: unmotivated
Music: Emily Vu—CHanges

I’m tired today.
