An autumn Monday. I saw a sugarbeet on the side of the road a couple of weeks ago, and now the trees are all turning red from the top down. Well, the ones that turn red, anyway. Most of the trees here turn brown (oaks) or yellow (birch) or something in between, and fall soggily to the ground. Fall is a soggy time in Sweden, even when it’s not actually raining. We had two stunning sunshiney days over the weekend but today was solid, thick, cloud cover. It was really windy when I left work, and quite chilly but there was a glimpse of sun as I drove into our neighborhood. There are lots of red berry clusters on the rowans and hawthorns, but lots of greenery is still…well, green.

It was, as I wrote last, a very busy weekend. The dinner and movie at Spegeln with Debbie, her sister Doris, and Camilla, was fun, and the food, especially the mushroom soup was excellent. The mushroom soup was one of the best I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a lot, because I love mushroom soup. The movie was completely unhinged, but Tom Cruise, John Goodman, and the entire supporting cas threw their absolute everything into it, and chewed the scenery ferociously.

The symphony on Saturday was also excellent. It was 2 pieces, the first by a female Finnish composer named Outi Tarkiainen: Songs of the Ice. It was really cool, and ended with the 3 percussion guys at the back whirling these long weird buzzing instruments over their heads. I’ve never seen anything like them. In her introduction to the piece, she says “Songs of the Ice is dedicated to the Okjökull glacier, declared dead in 2014 and Iceland’s first victim of climate change.” The second piece was Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, and it was magnificent. I could listen to it all day. So many beautiful sections for strings, and the bassoons were great as well. I loved it.

I did laundry when I got home, and after dinner Anders and I caught up with På Spåret (the team I was cheering for was beaten and out of the competition now, bummer), Fråga Lund, and Ted Lasso. There’s only 1 episode of Ted Lasso left, and another season isn’t yet confirmed, but it sounds likely: yay!

Yesterday I slept in like a log, because I hadn’t slept well during the night, was up 3 times. Then got up and got all the rest of my weekend chores done. Anders was working on the MG, and then mowed the lawn. He was gone all last week to Tingsryd, and he’s gone the next two weeks as well. Ugh. At least he’s home during the weekend. Martin and Theo came home for the evening; Anders picked them up from the bus stop at 4:30 and then Martin and I, with Theo watching and kibitzing, spent about an hour and a half cleaning out the last of his stuff from his closet and shelves. Most of it was papers and artwork from when he was quite little and some of it was hilarious. We didn’t throw it ALL away, but he cleaned out things very thoroughly and took a lot of it home, so his room is pretty well done now. There were 3 of my jackets (2 fleeces and a fake fur coat), and one of his. Karin had put my jackets up on Vinted to try and sell them, but there were no takers, so I will probably donate them to charity. There is also a 2-piece suit that Martin wore maybe 3 times total, which no longer fits. We drove to Eslöv and had dinner at Linnea & Basilika.

Busy day with lots of meetings at work, and tomorrow I am working from home with a day FULL of meetings again, starting with THREE of them before 11. I hate when there are too many meetings and I can’t get any actual work done. Right now I’m listening to Discover Weekly and swiping left on most of the suggestions. Some weeks nothing sounds good, others I add a dozen or so to my playlist. I’ve been listening to my entire playlist recently in the car, from oldest to newest songs. I’m about halfway through, and I’m being fairly judgmental and marking songs to remove later (I just removed a dozen!). My playlist is awesome, but it’s a living object and to keep it awesome I reevaluate my choices once in a while to make sure I still feel strongly about the music I keep.

Mood: judgey
Music: Michelle Branch—Find Your Way Back

Another Monday.
