Anders was gone part of Monday expecting to stay one night in Tingsryd but ended up coming home in the late afternoon. I had NO plans any evening so had lots of quiet nights. The only appointment I had was at Malmö hospital on Thursday to get my latest dose of Zessly (my colitis meds). The nurse asked me again about the initiative they are driving to get people to administer their own shots of Zessly at home, but I said no. It’s also weird because it’s a 30-minute IV drip, not a single shot, so I don’t know how they are managing it. I do NOT want to give myself shots, thank you very much. I don’t care about driving 30 minutes for a 30-minute procedure, taking 2 hours off work, and a 30-minute drive back…rather that than giving myself shots. I honestly don’t think I could do it. Ha. She took my refusal goodnaturedly and that was that. I hope they don’t keep asking.

Next week is busier, all AIC events. Thursday is book group, and Friday is a lunch in Lund. And Sunday morning is a tour of Malmö fire station that I organized so I have to show up even though it means getting up super early on a Sunday. It feels like most of the time things bunch up and I either have a crazy busy week or nothing.

I got up super late this morning. Woke up at 8 something to go to the bathroom and then promptly fell back asleep and slept until nearly 10. Not surprising considering I was up until almost 1 AM. Very sluggy but second load of laundry is now in, I’ve had lunch, and I’ve printed out, and signed and sealed my midterms ballot! Will mail it on Monday. Both kids have gotten theirs as well. Karin can print hers at school or work, but Martin will need a little help as he has no access to a printer. Even though Illinois is a pretty solid Democrat state, I still feel it’s really important for us to exercise the one perk we get from keeping our US citizenship.

It often feels like I am just blathering about the minute details of my day here on this journal, and rarely write about deep subjects like politics or religion or whatnot. I don’t feel the need to express my opinions more than I already have, but in case it hasn’t been clear, these are things I believe in: government FOR the people, by the people, and with the people; organized religion is a sop and breeding ground for populist movements; AI is useful and can be put to amazing uses, but is dangerous in the hands of thos who wish harm to others; if people put kindness first the world would be a much better place; education is one of the most meaningful things we can give ourselves and our society; erasing history because you don’t like it is a way of keeping people in ignorance; climate change is real and one of the worst self-made crises that humanity faces; women should be equal partners in everything and have autonomy over their bodies; and it’s better to do as much good as you can even in little ways than doing nothing at all.

OK, back to my regularly scheduled blathering. I’m reading a really good “after the end of society” sci-fi book, which feels strangely familiar as if I’d read it before, but I think it’s just because it contains several elements that are familiar characters or tropes. We have book group in 6 days but I haven’t started the book because I read it already, and even though I definitely need to either read it again or at least brush up on what it was about, I may not get that done in time. I read it 3 years ago, and just skimming the synopsis isn’t enough to remember details or what I felt about the book. I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads so I must have thought it was decent if not top-notch.

Apart from laundry and voting and reading, I plan to finish and publish a crossword puzzle that I’ve been working on for the past week and a half. Martin and I have slowed down considerably in our puzzle creation, which is a bummer. We were pretty obsessed for over a year though. He hasn’t published anything new in ages; his last puzzle was 8 months ago. He has told me that he hasn’t had any good ideas. I, on the other hand, have had LOTS of good ideas, but never seem to prioritize starting or working on them. But my last good theme idea is now in the works, and I think I only have a handful of clues left to write today. I might also do a little work, if I get motivated, as I was in the middle of a project when I stopped working yesterday, but we’ll see.

The fall TV season has started and 2 of our favorite Swedish game shows have premiered: Fråga Lund and På Spåret. They are really fun to watch, especially with Anders. We are watching the 4th season of Ted Lasso as well, and then need to find another series to start. O! And, if I can get Anders to transfer his photos to our PC, then I can start the next trip photo book for Normandy.

/end blathering

Mood: relaxed
Music: Kansas—Dust in the Wind

Apart from the fact that work was crazy busy and I was drowning in PPTs, this was a quiet week and it’s now a quiet weekend.
