This past long weekend was lovely. Macbeth<\/em> at Malm\u00f6 castle was great, if freezing once the sun disappeared under the roofline. It struck me that I’ve never actually seen Macbeth. Not sure why not. I’ve seen Hamlet a bazillion times and many of the comedies and romances as well. I knew the gist of the story, and I know most of the most famous quotes from the play. Anyway, the theater group that did the performance were super, though they must have been freezing, especially the woman who played Lady Macbeth; in her mad scene she was wearing a thin sleeveless silk shift. Brrr. Must remember to bring a warmer coat and possibly a blanket to next year’s performance which is, funnily enough: HAMLET! <\/p>\n

Friday was a whole day for me planned by my kids, my slightly delayed birthday gift. It was wonderful in every respect! I got a map pin from Karin at 11 am, which pointed me at a street corner in Lund, where she met me, and took me for a pedicure! The lady who did my feet was super extra careful of my still not 100% toe that had the ingrown toenail as it, believe it or not, is STILL not completely healed, though it is much better. I got a pretty pink color this time, which I was quite pleased with. Karin got a lovely dark maroon. We picked up sushi dogs for her and Martin, because even though she had told ME to eat lunch before coming, both kids had forgotten to eat lunch themselves. Karin wouldn’t let me pay for anything but parking. \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n

The we drove to Malm\u00f6 and met Martin at…a secondhand shop! It was one neither of them had been to, though I was there once and got a very nice small table to use as a nightstand in Martin’s room. It was all furniture, so we ended up going to 2 more shops nearby. I found 2 small espresso mugs for Anders and Martin found a bag of Transformers for his D&D game. At 3 pm we arrived at our next activity, which was 2 hours of painting ceramics! So fun! I haven’t been in ages, and since I wasn’t prepared, it took me a minute to come up with a good idea. Karin gave me one: oak leaves and acorns, 4 of each (because we’re the 4 Eks). Martin had a great idea to do a plate with a “crown shyness” theme of trees from below. And Karin did a lovely flower and leaf design on a soap dispenser. Martin didn’t finish his, so he’ll have to go back, but he’ll pick up ours when he does. <\/p>\n

It was really fun and lovely to just sit and chat with the kids while we painted. After that we had a little time to kill, so we ran into the pharmacy, then drove to a different part of Malm\u00f6 and parked, and walked over to the “shopping street” which is a pedestrian street that runs through the center of Malm\u00f6. We were a little early for whatever the next activity was (I guessed dinner since it was nearly 5:30) so we planned to stop in the SciFi bookstore, only to find they were closed and in the middle of moving to a new, larger location. Yay for bookstores getting BIGGER! That makes 3 bookstores alone on the shopping street, one of which is all English books! We went into a crystal store so Martin could buy some incense sticks, and while we were waiting, Karin said, “Hey! Who is that walking by outside?” I turned around and looked and it was Anders, hahaha! He was on his way to the restaurant. So we joined him and walked up and over a block to Brogatan, which I’d never actually been to. At least as far as I can remember! Theo was there waiting for us, and we sat down at a table for 6, which I didn’t really think anything of until Camilla showed up!! So fun that she was able to come, especially since she had missed the Macbeth performance the day before. I found out later that the kids had invited Debbie as well, but she was out of town on Friday and couldn’t be there.<\/p>\n

We had a lovely dinner (most of us got Steak Tartare), and a delicious dessert called Eton Mess with meringue and raspberries, yum yum. A great day, all around, and kudos to my kids for doing such a great job! I think I’ll have to ask for “time with my kids” for my birthday every year!<\/p>\n

Saturday was a totally lazy day. I slept in, did laundry, watered plants, but otherwise was a slug, reading and starting a new crossword puzzle. Yesterday, Sunday, was another busy and super day. Anders and I got up early and went to vote in the Swedish elections. We walked over to Flyinge School (where the kids used to go) to cast our ballots, and there was no line at all. When we got back, I had a quick breakfast and then left for Malm\u00f6 where I met up with Karin at a really nice arts and handicrafts market in Lillatorg. I bought a gorgeous tapestry bag to use for lunches, and found a beautiful marcasite-style ring at a vintage jewelry stand. Karin found a ring as well, and I bought it for her…for Christmas! I was a little taken aback by the sign the seller had set up that said all the jewelry was vintage from the 20s to the 90s…CRAZY to think the NINETIES are now considered vintage! Made me feel really old, haha!<\/p>\n

After the market, we drove to Lomma, where Karin bought a bottle of her favorite (sold out, no longer produced) perfume from a woman on Facebook marketplace, and then we went to Lund and had lunch with Martin at Folk. We all had a piece of the new seasonal slice which has a white sauce with zucchini and country lemon with dukkah. I had coppa sausage on mine: it was divine! After lunch Karin and I came home for an hour, and then left again for Lund with Anders to go see Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em>. It was great! I really enjoyed it. Anders and I had watched the last one on Saturday night, so that we were up to speed on where the story was. Super fun. We left Karin to go to the station to head home to Copenhagen, and Anders and I went to Rekas for burgers and fries.<\/p>\n

A perfectly perfect weekend, all around. \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n

And today I got the Scotland trip photo book in the mail (super fast!) and kudos from my manager. It’s a super busy week, so I’m feeling buried at the moment, but at least I have a really nice weekend to remember and to get me through the rest of this week. <\/p>\n
