Though it IS 1:39 pm there, so it oughtn’t to be a problem, but you never know.

On Friday, one my former roommates from Chicago came to stay for the night, with a friend of hers (an old roommate, but not mine). Lisa was a law student and knew my college roommate Lynda, and for a while, in the Cornelia Street apartment, she had the other bedroom, while Lynda and I divided up the big room. Is it weird that I cannot remember who had what room when it was Julie and Lynda and I, nor the name of the girl who had the room for a short period after Julie moved out? Superfluous info that my brain decided it no longer needs. Anyway, I can’t remember the last time I saw Lisa. She was at our wedding, and I know we saw her on one trip out to my parents when they still lived in Maryland, but that would have been BEFORE our wedding. So it if WAS our wedding, that was 30 years ago!

She looks nearly the same but her hair is longer. She had messaged me over a year ago that she was planning this trip, and that she and a friend were going to drive from Copenhagen in a big circle up to Båstad and Varberg but I wasn’t sure if the planned stopover at our place was going to be on their way up or their way down. It turned out that she had actually spent an entire week in Copenhagen with her 2 sisters, and her friend Meghan that came with her to Sweden, actually lives in Portugal! She was a hoot. One of those people who effortlessly keeps the conversation rolling. We fell into book talk and book recommendations, and as the evening progressed, everything else. Anders grilled a rosé pepper salmon (always a hit) with our potatoes and a delicious salad, and he had made a cherry pie from our cherries earlier in the day. I was glad I suggested it for dessert, because it was amazing.

They only stayed the one night, and we had a big breakfast late in the morning before they headed north. They’re in Kivik tonight, and then will be in Kåseberga on the coast (where Ales Stenar is) before heading back to Copenhagen for both of them to fly home. So, now I know someone in Lisbon if we ever get to Portugal again!

Lisa, Liz, and Meghan

I’ve been making a lot of plans recently, though not everything is firm. I’m off for 2 weeks after this Friday and have a big long list of cabinets/closets/drawers to clean out. The last time I did a big clean like that was during the pandemic, so it’s due. After those 2 weeks, I’ll still have 13 vacation days that I need to use up before the end of March next year. I just asked for 3 more off, 2 in September and 1 in October. I’ve put the following on the calendar: tickets to see Macbeth at Malmö castle in September, a design market also in September, an AIC lunch at Malmöfestivalen in August, plus going to see The Odyssey with the kids (and Anders) in Copenhagen at the IMAX. We also have a housewarming party, a crayfish party, and I have a birthday lunch with Debbie and Camilla, all planned in August.

And that’s not even including all the AIC club events. There’s not so much on the fall calendars yet, apart from lunches in Lund, and book group evenings, but more will be coming fairly soon. Our president, Carys, is planning to stay on the board for next year, and it seems like most of the board is planning the same, which is awesome, as it’s a very good board!

Going to call my mama llama now and wish her a happy birthday!

Mood: relaxed
Music: Cherie—I’m Ready

Last week of July, and it’s already starting to feel a littly autumny, mostly because it’s cooled down, there’s a lot of rain and cloud cover, and the leaves are all falling from the trees (probably due to the heat we had and the drought).
